KIMATHI DONKOR

The artist I will study for my project is Kimathi Donkor just for the style and context side of inspiration. He makes the audience understand the importance of British black history, such as the black urban rebellions of 1985. As an artist he uses a wide range of mixed media to express his thoughts and options to the community. The types of media he will use to draw with are photography, oil paints and acrylic paints etc.

He is well known for putting on an exhibition called fall/upspring which was showcased at The Bettie Morton Gallery in Brixton. The exhibition was created to celebrate the 20th century of the Tottenham and Brixton riots however yet again the exhibition was disturbed by two plain police men taking down the paintings without asking the artist, i believe Kimathi Donkor was being open minded on alienation and violence towards the working class. I strongly agree with him not the police there was no reason for them to have the authority to disturb the community in any right. What they have done is judgmental; even though the riots happened in the past it still needs to be remembered like any other historical event in the UK.
